Para vos explicar o porquê de ter iniciado um projeto na área da ilustração e do design criativo temos de apanhar boleia do Marty McFly no seu DeLorean DMC-12 e, desta vez, “regressar ao passado” até aos eventos da minha infância.
To explain why I started a project in the area of illustration and creative design, we have to take a ride from Marty McFly on his DeLorean DMC-12 and travel “back to the past” to the events of my childhood.
Lembro-me com saudade o tempo investido em copiar para o papel as capas dos filmes VHS da Disney. Ao início, o Donald era apenas um pato e o Mickey não passava, lá está, de um rato mas, com o entusiasmo e concentração de um meia-leca-criativo, estas personagens foram sendo melhoradas até ao ponto da réplica perfeita. Desenhá-las foi e continua a ser um desafio. Com a vinda da adolescência, esta relação de união criativa com o lápis foi aos poucos substituída pela adrenalina de uma bicicleta ou pela chama ardente de um namorico. Apenas quando necessitava de exteriorizar é que ia buscar o tal estojo de pele, retirava o velho lápis e rabiscava em qualquer superfície, até nos meus cadernos de escola. Era o meu refúgio. Sei que se um dia encontrar esses cadernos, irei experienciar de novo a sua carga emocional.
I remember the time I spent investing in sketching and copying the covers of Disney’s VHS movies to a piece of paper. At first, Donald was just a regular duck and Mickey was just another mouse, but with enthusiasm and concentration of a creative little kid, these characters were improved constantly to the point of a perfect replica. Drawing them was and still remains a challenge. With the start of my teenage years, this creative relationship with the pencil was gradually replaced by the adrenaline of a bicycle or the passion of a love relationship. Only when I needed to release my feelings, I would searched my pencil case, remove the old one and scribble on any surface, even on my school notebooks. It was my refuge. I know that if I ever find these notebooks, I will enter in their emotional world again.
Passados estes longos anos, e já com alguma experiência de design gráfico, tive vontade de voltar a sentir esta minha outra forma de expressão. Assim, no início de 2019, sabendo a facilidade de partilhar arte nas redes sociais, resolvi explorar algumas ideias que me inquietavam há já algum tempo.
Como ponto de partida neste vasto mundo dos rabiscos, decidi criar o portfólio “Sketching Cloud”. Esta ideia parte do mesmo exercício quando em miúdos o usávamos como forma de passar o tempo. Procurar formas nas nuvens, imaginar histórias e desenhar com os dedos todo o tipo de referências e inspirações.
After these long years, and with some graphic design experience, I wanted to feel again this my form of expression. So, in early 2019, knowing the ease of sharing art on social media, I decided to explore some ideas that were here for a long time.
To start in this vast sketching world, I resolved to create the “Sketching Cloud” portfolio. This idea begins from the same exercise, when kids, we used to pass time. Searching shapes in the clouds, wondering stories and drawing with our fingers all kinds of references and inspirations.
